Straight white boomer here. I’ve been friends with a Hispanic gay man who wore silver-tipped cowboy boots and joined me and my friends drinking after work when I was in college working at Disneyland and later in life a Black transgender nurse who wore dresses and a name tag that said “Arthur”. What’s gone missing over the decades is not judging people based on who they sleep with but by who they are as a person. We used to call it “You do you and I’ll do me.” Somehow that’s not enough anymore and being respectful of each other is too much to ask and not enough to satisfy at the same time.

That sums it up nicely. The knob you missed (and "coffee" was profound) is the "must agree with me" knob.

That one is analog, although some have it jammed so far above "eleven" that it might as well....

Take "transgender". Dont expect me to go along with "you cannot be serious" demands to pretend I see something else. Flip side, conduct yourself respectfully and conform reasonably to what you claim, and I do not care what toilet you choose, provided it isn't the one I am currently enthroned upon.

Leave me be and I will leave you be. -Demand- my acclaim and I will "bless your heart". I have my own quarks to entertain.

And you...are solidly correct...about Kirk.
